Devils Set To Do Something They’ve Never Done Before
The 2013 NHL Lockout Schedule has produced a few interesting things, and the New Jersey Devils have one of those coming up.
The Devils will play on the road against the Washington Capitals tomorrow night, and they’ll play the Capitals again, in Washington, on Saturday.
I went back through the Devils’ schedule for every season, and I could find no other time that this has happened.
This will be the 102nd time the Devils play the same team back to back, but only the second time where they’ll do it in the same building.
They hosted the Flyers for two games in a row during the 2005-06 season. They won both games, the first on April 13th 2006, 4-1, and then winning again on Sunday, April 16th, 5-1.
In their history of facing the same team in back to back games, they have swept both games 23 times, and have done it against Washington 3 out of 17 times the teams have faced off in consecutive games.
The Devils have lost both games in 25 out of the 101 such occurrences so far.
Overall, they are 91-93-18 in games where they face the same team consecutively.
Of course, this is a completely new and different situation, but what fun is it talking about something without bringing out some random stats!?
Anything short of three points against a struggling Washington team, even though both games are on the road, and the Devils fan base may start to implode.
Let’s hope the team doesn’t give them a reason to do that just yet…
