UPDATE - There were concerns over a possible conflict with an event at The Rock tonight, but the Memorial for Lokomotive at Championship Plaza is STILL ON for tonight. Please stop by whenever you can, beginning at 5pm.

Candles, signs, notes, pictures, flowers, and other items can be left to pay tribute.

You can also follow along on Twitter by checking the #CPLokomotiv hashtag.

Fans will gather to pay tribute to the Lokomotiv team

Fans will be gathering at Championship Plaza, located across the street from the Prudential Center, at 5pm on Friday, September 9th to pay tribute to the victims of the plane crash that took the lives of the entire Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team of the KHL.

Among the players killed when the plane went down shortly after takeoff were former Devils Karel Rachunek, 32, who played for the team in ’07-’08 and Alexander Vasyunov.

Vasyunov, who signed a one-year deal with Lokomotiv this off-season to get more playing time, played in 18 games with the Devils last season and scored his first NHL goal on November 12, 2010 against the Edmonton Oilers. He was 23.

Fans are encouraged to bring candles, notes, or any other item that you’d like to leave as a tribute to not only the former Devils, but every player who perished in the crash.

Whether you’re a New Jersey Devils fan, a hockey fan, or even if you’ve never watched a game of hockey before, you’re welcome to stop by.

If you can’t make it at 5pm, feel free to stop by at any point after that and pay tribute whenever you can.
