Brodeur Ties Sawchuk; Good Start To December

December 7th, 2009 | by Carlos Figueiredo |

by Carlos Figueiredo
The Devils shutout the Buffalo Sabres tonight, 3-0, and Martin Brodeur tied Terry Sawchuk for the all-time shutout record with 103.

The Devils dominated the Sabres throughout the game and got goals from Rolston (10th), Zajac (9th) and Bergfors (9th) to record win.

As I mentioned in my post a few days ago , the Devils have a full schedule in December with 15 games, 10 of them coming at home.

With the win tonight, the team is now 3-1 this month and play the next five games at home. Their next game is Wednesday against Carolina, followed by games against the Panthers on Friday and Flyers on Saturday. That will be their second set of back-to-back games in 2 weeks. It will also complete a stretch of seven games in 11 days.

The Devils have shown that neither the schedule, nor the opponent (they are 5-0 against the Penguins and Capitals, widely considered the two best teams in the east), will hold them back this season. They are well on their way to a 13th consecutive playoff appearance, and by that time, they will likely have the all time leader in shutouts by a goalie, Martin Brodeur.
