Who Do You Want The Devils to Sign? -Remaining Free Agents
July 5th, 2009 | by Carlos Figueiredo |A lot of big names have already been signed by other teams this off-season, while the Devils have lost Brian Gionta, John Madden, Scott Clemmensen and Mike Rupp to free agency.
The only move the Devils have made is signing Ilkka Pikkarainen, not a name that makes Devils fans immediately think “Stanley Cup, here we come!”
But let’s take a look at the players that are still available, by position, via free agency. You might be surprised to see there are still some good names to be had, with age, former team, and last season’s salary next to each player. This is not a complete list, but a list of the bigger names and/or players the Devils could use.
NOTE: The Devils have just over $12.5 million left under the salary cap.

Who do you think the Devils should sign?

I would LOVE for the Devils to sign Roenick. But that’s purely selfish reasons. I’ve always been a Roenick fan, and I think he still has something to contribute to a team. (If he can stay healthy…)
A Roenick Devils jersey? I’m all over that…
Besides, he’s still the best interview in the league.

Everyone loves Roenick! (sounds like the name of a TV sitcom)
Roenick and Shanny on the same line? Sign me up!

I’d like the Devils to sign Paul Mara. And Wade Dubielewicz who isn’t on your list but is a free agent. Unless you know something I don’t(which wouldn’t be a surprise)
By Carlos Figueiredo on Jul 5, 2009
Dubz is still a free agent. He would be a decent signing, but if it gets to that point, I would prefer Weekes.
Mara would be solid also. I would like him, Bergeron or Beauchemin on D.

as for as centers go i go with none of the above. sign sykora and satan, and let elias play center with sykora. sign satan just for the marketing and lou can make a few bucks, we all know how he likes that. don’t bother signing a defenseman, lou has been stock piling them in the minors since day 1, time to see if any of them can actually play at the nhl level. goaltender talk to either cujo or ed belfour. both experienced trustworthy guys who could take over if god forbid brodeur goes down again. and most importanly get a new GM. its time for lou and his hall of fame resume to retire.

I’ve always wanted Satan to sign with the Devils….just so I could get that jersey! I wouldn’t mind seeing Sykora again, but the “bring back past Devils” experiment didn’t go all that well last off-season. I agree with seeing what the younger D-men have, but signing 1 FA D-man wouldn’t be all that bad, maybe Paul Mara. And I still think Weekes would be the best “cheap/backup” goalie option. He wants to stay in NJ, knows the team/system.

If you ever read Martin Brodeur’s book, he has a Sykora story that clearly underlines why he will never be a Devil again.
Plus when we saw him at a bar (as a Devil) in Toronto he was a prick. So fvck him.

True. Forgot about that. Vote No on 17!

Sykora’s a homo!!!
